Facebook Message Archive: In the message-list home window you could see a 'x' at the end of each message. If you click on it, the message is removed from the message-list. However, it is not deleted, so you could get it back if you like. To 'unarchive' the archived message click eyeglass icon next to "Search Message". As shown in number listed below:

When you click the icon, it expands to show you a menu as shown in number listed below. Click "Archived Message" to see all the messages you had actually archived before. You can review them or unarchive to bring back to the message-list.
Erasing Facebook message
To erase a message, open a private message by clicking on one of the message shown (shown in first number above). The click "Activities" button next to "Browse This Discussion" box as displayed in the figure below. Click on "Remove Messages ...".
If you have greater than one messages in the list, Facebook asks if you wish to "Erase All" or "Delete Chosen". Pick the proper options and you have actually removed the message.
